5 Reasons to Buy Redmi Y1
Mi launched the Redmi Y1 – the selfie smartphone just some time ago, this phone was launched mainly to counter oppo and vivo, which are selling a huge number of smartphones due to mass advertising. The difference between Xioami, Oppo, and Vivo is that Xioami phones are amazing in performance and that’s not the case in Oppo and Vivo.In this article, I am going to list out 5 reasons to buy Redmi Y1.Before we jump into the list of 5 reasons to buy Redmi Y1, let’s have look at the specifications put down on the table by Xioami’s Redmi Y1.
Specifications of Redmi Y1
Redmi Y1 was introduced to everyone for buying in November 2017.Redmi Y1 mainly focuses on the selfie camera but as you know Xioami never compromises in performance, even a normal smartphone user’s first priority is the performance of the device.Price of the Redmi Y1 starts at $150, but in India, it costs only Rs 8999($149).
Body and Design
The body of Redmi Y1 looks almost same as other Redmi phones.Redmi Y1 is not much heavy as it weighs only 153grams, don’t judge me on that as there are phones which weigh much less than the Redmi Y1.The dimensions of the Redmi Y1 are 153 x 76.2 x 7.7mm.Redmi Y1 has 5.5 inches display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels at 236PPI(Pixels Per Inch) and with corning gorilla glass 3 protection.
Redmi Y1 has a 13MP(MegaPixel) primary camera with f/2.2 aperture and the features provided are Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama, and phase detection autofocus. It has a 16MP(MegaPixel) front shooter with f/2.0 aperture and it can shoot videos in 1080p.
CPU and GPU
The Redmi Y1 packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 and this is an Octa-core CPU, which is clocked at 1.4GHz.The Snapdragon 435 is coupled with Adreno 505 GPU.I think Xioami could have a little better from the processor point of view.
There are 2 storage variants available and both variants have a dedicated slot for SDcard, through which internal memory is expandable up to 128GB.One variant has 64GB of internal memory with 4GB of RAM and the other one has 32GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM.
Redmi Y1 has two dedicated Sim slots and both are for nano sim. Both the sims support 4G/LTE.
MIUI And Sensors
Redmi Y1 runs on MIUI 8 which is based on Android Noughat, but Xioami told that it will get MIUI 9 by November 2017.There is GPS support for the Redmi Y1.The sensors present on the Redmi Y1 are –
- Ambient light sensor
- Hall sensor
- Compass sensor
- Fingerprint sensor
- Proximity sensor

Design and Body
The body design of the Redmi Y1 feels premium.Xioami has used plastic for the body but still seem to have a good build quality. The Redmi Y1 is lightweight as it weighs only 153grams.The placement of fingerprint at the back looks good and is properly placed.
The rear camera does a very good work while taking micro shoots. In daylight, the rear camera does a very good job of taking videos and pictures. But when it comes to artificial lighting, the rear camera does not take pictures up to the level due to the presence of f/2.2 aperture while Redmi 4 does a better job than this due to the presence of f/2.0 aperture. The color production on the Redmi Y1 is amazing. Now its time to speak about the selfie camera, on which the phone is mainly focused on.The 16MP front shooter on the Redmi Y1 clicks awesome pictures and videos. The selfie camera does a very good job in daylight, artificial lighting and in low lighting. The only mistake made by Xioami here was they should have used the same rear camera lens as the Redmi 4, with the f/2.0 aperture which would click much better pictures in artificial and low lighting.
Despite focusing on the selfie camera, unlike Oppo and Vivo Xioami provides us with a good processor, which provides us a good performance. The Redmi Y1 performs well while playing heavy games and does not heat up much.Performance wise, the Redmi Y1 performs well in day to day usage.
Dedicated Sim slots and Dedicated microSD card
Xioami has done something which it doesn’t do frequently.Yes, it has provided the Redmi Y1 with 2 dedicated sim slots and a dedicated microSD card, where both sim slots support 4G.Now you can use 2 sim cards and a microSD card at the same time on the Redmi Y1.
Redmi Y1 provides almost the same quality of selfies like Vivo and Oppo, but it costs much cheaper than the Vivo and Oppo phones. The 32GB internal storage with 3GB of RAM costs ₹ 8,999($150) and the 64GB internal memory with 4GB of RAM costs ₹10,999($180).
